Bicol Region, and surrounding areas as well are magnets for typhoons. Are there very many people that live in these areas. I have read that not too long ago a typhoon came through killing around 1000 people.

Hi to everyone! Unfortunately, the Philippines is always battered by typhoons. However, majority of this typhoons are concentrated on specific areas. Not necesarily the entire country is always affected. Those usually badly hit are Batanes, Ilocos Region, Bicol Region. The sad thing is that Filipinos are known to be regional meaning they value the place where they were born and grew up. So even if the area is prone to calamities and even the government exerts all efforts to ask them to relocate they just couldn't have the guts to leave perhaps because of their properties or their livelihood.
Although there is also an advantage because we also experience drought during summertime so also need the rainfall to provide water to our dams.

Here are some of the images that we were able to gather after the typhoons of 2006. This gallery is dedicated to all the calamity victims, to those who have perished and have lost their loved one. May this be a reminder of those fateful days.

After almost two weeks of none stop rains, Legazpi City has been flooded for a day and has affected the business center in downtown Legazpi. The Legazpi City Government had launched a drainage clean up to avoid further damage to health and properties. I hope there will be a lasting solution to this perennial problem. comment are wellcome.

Seems then that typhoons are common to Philippines. What makes the country prone to such calamities? In certain places in the world typhoons, flooding and hurricanes are foreign and unknown of. Does it mean it has to do with the landscaping and general geographic condition of the area.It is good for people to value their heritage and where they come from but not to the point of putting their lives on the line. Has the Filipino government considered evicting them by force?
