| "Less than $400 a month"
@curious catThere are a lot of studio type apartments and condominiums in the Philippines that will only cost you about P5, 000 to P10, 000 a month (which is about $110 to $220 on current exchange rates). I'm telling you, living in a place for about P10, 000 a month isn't cheap in the Philippines. But for foreigners, that is definitely a good deal. However, if you decide to live in a hotel or condotels, don't expect a price like that. Most hotels in the country runs a rate of about P1, 500 to P7, 500 a day, depending on the quality of service they offer as well as the popularity of the place as a good place to stay. Most five star hotels run a rate of P4, 900 a night, as their lowest price. Regarding safe areas, the whole of Metro Manila is safe if you take necessary precautions. The City of Manila is safe especially if you are in the main roads, which houses most of the cheap apartments and condos. If you decide to go on narrow streets and corners at night, take extra safety measures. Makati is definitely safe as well as the Ortigas area in Mandaluyong. Quezon City is pretty safe, although the northern part of the city is quite notorious for night crimes. Definitely, you can live in the Philippines the cheapest you can imagine. As a matter of fact, you can have a relatively happy and 'normal' life for less than $400 a month, that is if you are not the type who goes on expensive activities and hobbies. Always remember that you need to research everything about the place you will be staying for maximum satisfaction. Price, location, the neighborhood and the building itself matters.
