Living in Philippines Life, Philippines
KiwiNicola from Christchurch, New Zealand - Fri Jul 11 04:09:33 2008
Hello I am a 3rd year university student. We have been assigned to develop a presentation on the culture of a country of interest. I have chosen the Philippines, thus I am posting here on this forum! I would be interested to hear the experiences of people living in all parts of this country. I am interested in hearing points from all aspects of life, social, business, religious, etc. Social things like going to visit friends - do you take a gift, do you need to call first, who pays on dates, do you greet with a kiss or handshake or inclination of the head... Business things like the prefered method of communication (email, phone, face to face meetings), power distance, decision making processes, compensation and rewards... I guess you get the idea, the sharing of any experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. Trackbacks

Hi!Thanks for your reply. I think that is a very good idea. I have a problem though: I live in a very small town (basically consisting of a University and supporting facilities) on the edge of a large town. It is very monocultural here. I know in the North island there is more variety but here in the south, particularily small town south island, it is very white. I would love to be able to invite a Filipino out for a coffee and interview them, however between my friends, their friends and probably even their friends, there are no Filipinos. If you have filipino friends living in Christchurch, please pass on my email nicolamaree@hotmail.com and extend my invitation to them for a coffee and a chat. Thank you.
