LTO In The Cloud The Land Transportation Office wanted to be in the cloud. They recently contracted an IT company in the name of Stradcom to make them a fully functional body in the internet. The project is not only focused in bringing LTO in the online community in a more active manner, it also aims to connect the office to other government departments. LTO wanted to make their services available for other agencies of the country, most importantly to the police force, whereas it will help trace vehicles for criminal records, or make it easier to name the owners and get info about the car involved in any suspicious activity. This should have been done way back in the 90s. In the US, Europe and most parts of the developed world, inter-connectivity between departments of the government is seamless. This is perhaps why their crime rate is lower compared to the Philippines. For instance, a man on the road is over-speeding and gets chased by the police. During the process, the police can get already get information about the driver or the owner of the car while in the pursuit. They can verify whether the vehicle's papers are already expired or get information about the driver/owner of the car. In the same manner, LTO can instantly provide information about stolen cars and update their pages real time. Also, one problem LTO wants to focus on is about fake emission certificates. Emission tests are required by LTO but a lot of drivers get a way with it by producing fake certificates. If accredited emission centers are interconnected with LTO, they can just send emission certificates of every vehicle and so LTO can verify if the ones being presented to them are true. |
