Gardenia from The Flower Patch - 12/06/06 03:31

I want to hear from an experienced traveller and scuba diver in the Philippines where the best corals are at. I am going down there with some friends in March of 2007.

I don't have any suggestions. But did you know that about 30 percent coral reefs found in the Philippines are dying? You can find out mroe information on that here:

That is aweful. Part of the reason tourism is so good there is because of the coral reefs. I have read about the dynamite and cyanide fishing before. That needs to be stopped. Can coral reef grow back?

I have no idea if coral reefs can grow back, but probably not that quickly if so. Or else it would not be such an issue.

Thanks guys for the information. I would like to know the best areas then, where the corals aren't being affected as much. That is our main reason for going and I would hate to arrive somewhere in which the majority of the corals are destroyed.

You can go to Palawan. It is a wonderful place and I am sure that you will find the place really interesting and you will enjoy your stay there for sure.

Regarding the coral reefs, that is true, it is sad that the coral reefs in the country are getting destroyed because of illegal dynamite fishers. But still there are still some spots in the country that are worth the try.
